Rose ring

I made the rose ring using different metals and set a champagne cubic zirconia. The head of the ring which is the rose made in brass. The shank is made in silver and the shank is a split shank. On the side view of the ring the leaves are leaning towards the rose. The yellow rose symbolizes friendship therefore I used the yellow metal which is brass.

Roses have their have natural colours which are red, pink, white and yellow. There are other unsual colours of roses which are not found in nature. White roses are dyed to form a new colour. The colour of roses passes different messages and they can symbolise something.

Mitricheva Iryna

I found this work below on Instagram. I like how the designer incorporated sculptural painting with metal to create contemporary jewellery. Mitricheva Iryna is sculptural painter, she paints 3-dimensional different flowers but I picked the work that's relates with my work. I like her idea of making 3-dimensional roses that she incorporated with metal. This made realize that I can make clay roses and incorporate them with metal to make floral jewellery.

These earrings from figure 1 to figure 3 are made with the thinnest plates (0.1 mm) of metal. The imitated rose petals were forged, domed to get the 3-dimensional form and the rose petals are bent with double round pliers to imitate how rose petals curls.

In my research I find out that roses comes in numbers and that number means something. I couldn't find the five roses mean but on this video they said "special moments are always made with roses." which I can relate to what happened today. Like the moment when Samantha Vincent gave me a red rose with thorns I felt joy in my heart. I can call it my special moment. This video is an example of how creatives can create their own meaning for what a rose can represent; which is something I want to do in my own work.

Life size rose

Copper rose

 I bouquet two roses a few weeks ago. I find more details from life rose because I was making which was from the head. Having a life rose made me want to make a life-size rose because I was making small roses. When making a life-size rose I found out that it much easier and face to make it. I didn't even have to dome the copper plates, after piercing I forged the petals and bend the petals with pliers. Please look at figure 1 below.

Natural roses

Red and yellow roses.

Today I went to the market to buy fruits but I came across with a lady that is selling flowers. I bought two roses so that I can have them as my reference. I want to get their details on metal and the actual look of the rose.

Dried rose

When I was looking at this dried rose I noticed that the petals of the rose are more curled comparing to the life rose.  The petals curls in and on top of each other. Even the leaves on the stem of the rose are more curled; forming different shapes of curls

Copper Crown

I have been working on the crown which is made of copper metal. I want  to experience making big pieces of jewellery because I am caged on making small pieces of jewellery. It will help me in future to use to some information I got from making this crown, because I have never soldered a big piece like this one before.  It was quite tricky to solder this crown because it need more heat when soldering on figure 1.

In figure 1, it is the plain copper crown, which the different size of strips are solder together.

In  figure 2, are roses which are made of copper. Small plates of copper are pierced out, forged, domed, bent petals by double round pliers and a wire with a ball is solder to hold the plates together.

In figure 3, I soldered the copper roses where the marquee shapes meet on the crown.

Figure 4 I have added twister wire as the imitation of the vine.

In Figure 5, I pierced out the leaf shapes and chased the veins using the flat punch. These leaves are going to be soldered on the twisted wire.

I have been viewing the flowers and roses that I made in 2016. The pictures of roses in figure 1 and figure 2 below are of roses I made in 2016. I found out that the roses that I made in 2016 and now are not the same as you can see figure 3 below. In terms of how they look, the ones I have been making lately are looking more natural.

A single rose

Symbolize love at first sight on a first date.
It can be also be given in years to say, "I still love you."

I imitated a multi-layered flower which is a rose with a bud and leaves using sterling silver metal. The rose brooch have the stem and it tapers at the bottom, from 2 mm wire down to 0.9 mm wire and bend it into a pin. I wanted to make a simple hand made floral brooch. I want the viewer to look at the details of the flower rose how it curls and how the leaves are attached to the stem. This helped me to improve in my soldering skills because it was quite tricky to solder the imitated rose head with the 2 mm wire without melting the thinnest plates (0.1 mm) of the imitated rose. Next time I will drill the thicker wire so that so that I can insert the small wire in and the solder will run easily when soldering.

It is a succulent that is also known as Greenovia dodrantalis, evergreen perennial succulent which is 6 cm tall and it is stemless rosette.

Roses and meaning

In the ancient times people gave flowers to pass a message on their loved ones. It was a direct way of conveying a secret message and visual way to send flowers to your loved one. This was a great way of sending a private message right back to your loved one. It is one of many ways of how people expresses love to their loved ones. Flowers were a way of communicating through their hidden meaning. According to Colleen Barrett there's the hidden meaning behind the number of roses in your bouquet as mentioned below.

Victoria Walker

Victoria Walker is a jewellery designer inspired by the beauty of natural forms. Walker specializes in fine kinetic jewellery, while I was viewing her work I saw that she also imitate roses locket which opens and closes. I chose her because in her work the imitated flowers but I only the rose locket pendant because it relates to my b-tech theme. I was inspired by her work and it made rose earrings but they are not kinetic.
