Anglo Plat piece

Figure 1- Mthethwa, F., (2020), Tie pin, platinum.

Scattered Petals.

The tie pin I made is inspired by scattered rose petals. I imitated rose petals using metal looking at the dried rose petals that I had. I soldered scattered petals together to create symbolic meaning. I used scattered petals as my inspiration because it symbolizes new season, a new beginning, and change. I designed the tie pin for Warren Masemola.

Warren Masemola was born on the 18th of May 1983 in the place called Garankuwa in Pretoria. He grew up with his grandparents who were both blind. At an early age, he was diagnosed with Alopecia. Warren was teased by learners because of hair loss. He participated in sports which are athlete, cricket, basketball, and rugby during his primary school years. He completed his matric at Tshwane Christian School in 2000. Masemola had a strong passion for art at an early age. He enrolled at Moving into Dancing Academy, he studied drama at Market Theatre Laboratory and graduated there in 2004.

In 2008 Masemola joined the e.tv soap Scandal where he played Lentswe. Warren starred Thokozani "Thoko" the gay guy on SABC 1 Ses'Topla. He said he was homophobic at that time but the role helped to accept him to understand the life of the gay society. Masemola said that he rehabilitated himself to accept gays. He then continued with his career path where he became famous for television actor. Warren Masemola is an award-winning actor.

Besides acting he loves traveling, enjoys music and reading. Warren doesn't depend on getting income on his acting career only, he also sells oranges on the back of his bakkie on his street. Masemola is not ashamed of the side hustle that generates him lot of money. He does not have the celebrity pride which affects lots of celebrities.

The tie pin that I designed reflects his life journey of how he grew up until he became famous, and how he maintains his famous life.
