Precious metals



Precious materials are those materials that are shiny or sparkling appearance and expensive. Those materials are diamonds, gold, platinum, and silver. Jewellery designers make jewellery out of precious materials which are treasured and served as a symbol of status. These materials are used many years ago, the jewellers discovered different techniques working with these metals to make jewellery. Those jewellery techniques are granulation, filigree, forge, anticlastic raising, fusion-inlay, plating, photo-etching and oxidizing. They show their creativity through the use of precious metals in jewellery making.

Yasuki Hiramatsu relates to my work because he forges very thin sheets before crumpling and forming them into brooches, as you can see figure 1 below. With my work I forge thin plates of metallic rose petals and bend the edges to get the curly feel on the edges of metallic rose petals. Forging them helps to get soft texture on the metal.
